In support of the on-going national vaccination drive, the Namibian Ports Authority partnered with the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) to bring vaccinations closer to the staff, family members and the Port community. The vaccination drive took place at the Port Authority’s Clinic on 09 August 2021, and due to the high interest the MoHSS returned for another drive on 17 August 2021.
In the aim towards human resource capacity building, Namport’s Nurse Ms Hedwig Hijamutiti recently completed training in administering vaccines against COVID-19.
Although vaccination is voluntary, the Port Authority continues to encourage its workforce to get vaccinated as this not only protects them, but it protects the community which in turn contributes positively to the ongoing efforts of government to curb the surge against COVID-19.
With the Ports Authority’s core values of being connected and caring, the entity thought it beneficial to bring the vaccination drive to its staff members.
The presence of Namport as an entity has been felt through the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic as the company has without fail continued its unwavering financial support towards government’s efforts in curbing the spread of the disease.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic earlier in March 2020, Namport has invested more than N$1, 5 million in the health, safety fraternity and at the temporary truck port. The entity’s latest donation was the 4 reefer containers it sponsored to the Ministry of Health and Social Services. The need for the reefers came about as the country’s health system was placed under immense pressure during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The containers were dispersed to various regions within the country and will be used as complementary mortuaries.
Namport’s staff members at the beginning of the pandemic were each treated to care hampers as well as shopping vouchers to purchase Immune boosters and cleaning materials for their households.
At Namport, we believe that it is during hard times that the hero within us is revealed.
“Be a hero, do your part and get your vaccination”.
