Since the official inauguration of its New Container Terminal (NCT) in August 2019, the Port of Walvis Bay has been a plethora of activities having welcomed some of the world’s largest container (TEU) carrying vessels. As part of our ongoing marketing and strategic business development initiatives, we are once again happy to announce the maiden visit by MV Cypress sailing under CMA-CGM Shipping Line on 27 June 2021, offloading a record number of one thousand five hundred and thirteen (1,513) container units, destined for Cape Town, South Africa.
In our quest to be the best performing seaports in Africa, the Port of Walvis Bay continue to demonstrate operational agility and efficiency in accommodating MV Cypress who, due to berthing delays in South Africa called on the Port of Walvis Bay to temporarily offload the said container units. We are therefore happy to announce that as mammoth as the task at hand may have seemed, the teamwork displayed between our marine and terminal operating teams ensured the seamless offloading of five hundred and twelve (512) container units’ per hour during an eight hour shift.
According to Richard Ibwima, Manager: Terminals at Namibian Ports Authority (Namport), MV Cypress is slated to return to the Port of Walvis Bay in mid-July of this year to collect these very units destined for the Port of Cape Town.
We wish to express our appreciation to CMA-CGM Shipping Line for the trust bestowed upon the Port of Walvis Bay’s ability to service MV Cypress, thus allowing it to make timeous call to the next scheduled destination Port.
