ONDANGWA, 25 JUL (NAMPA) - Individuals in northern Namibia, under a newly-formed Kwafela Oshiwana Foundation, on Thursday dispatched two trucks containing a large consignment of staple food to be delivered to the COVID-19 affected communities in the Erongo Region.
The food was contributed to the foundation by individuals, who delivered it at own cost at the residence of Magda Kambonde at Ondangwa since mid-June this year.
Another Ondangwa resident, Paulus Cornelius initiated the food collections drive and nominated the foundation committee members, including former Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) director-general Dr Ben Mulongeni, who has taken up the initiative with the traditional authorities.
Ondonga, Oukwanyama and Uukwambi are the Aawambo traditional authorities of northern Namibia, which have thus far pledged to support the drive.
"Our drive is non-political and it is all about providing relief food to our brothers and sisters who find themselves in the Erongo Region without food after losing their monthly income due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic", Cornelius explained.
He told those present during the dispatching of the two trucks on Thursday that he had a dream one night while sleeping to spearhead collections of food countrywide to be distributed to the COVID-19-affected community of the Erongo Region.
According to him, the drive continues until all traditional authorities in Namibia are lobbied to also make some contributions to the initiative.
The consignment includes mahangu and maize meal, dried traditional spinach, pumpkins and lemons form part of the food to the Erongo Region for distributions to the needy people, especially those who are placed in isolation due to COVID-19.
Kwafela Oshiwana is an Aawambo community dialect meaning help the nation.
