Namport honors its long serving employees

On Friday last week, the Namibian Port’s Authority rolled out the red carpet to honour all long serving employees at the Annual Long Service Awards Ceremony. A total number of 129 staff members from the Port of Walvis Bay received certificates and trophies at the glamourous function, with the main objective being to celebrate the efforts of colleagues who have contributed towards the productivity of the entity, over a continuous period of years.

Speaking at the function, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Kavin Harry said that the commitment and dedication displayed by the recipients has earned the entity the status of being an employer of choice.

As a ports authority, Namport remains committed to providing world class port services to all sea-borne trade, through amongst others excellent customer services, sustainable growth and social responsibility with the ultimate aim of contributing to the Namibian dream of becoming a logistics hub for the Southern African Development Community.  

Mr Russell Eyberg received the most senior category which is the 45 years of service and advised all his colleagues that it has been commitment and a love for his job that made him come back to his workstation year after year!

Encouraging the recipients with congratulatory remarks was Namport’s Alumni, Mr Benny Farmer who had dedicated 43 years of his life to the entity. The now retired Mr Farmer reminded the guests that “without teamwork it is impossible to reach one’s goals, and further urged everyone to continue working as a team at all times”.

Long service awards and certificates are conferred to staff members who have been in the employment of the company for continuous years, in the following categories: 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40 and 45 years respectively.

A special expression of appreciation goes to 8 employees who have served Namport at the Port of Walvis Bay continuously for:

• 30 years
  • Mr Shaheed Saban, Mr Richard Goliath, Mr Josef Nghiholiwe, Mr Ernest Strauss and Mrs Kathleen van Heerden
• 35 years
  • Mr Johannes “Wikus” Oberholster
• 40 years
  • Mr Israel Oskar
• 45 years
  • Mr Russell Eyberg

The Port of Lüderitz will have their long-service awards function on 04 December 2019 when 16 staff members will be appreciated. The guests were kept entertained with sounds from the Mascato Choir and by Mr Salvadore Mouers.
