The Port of Walvis Bay
The Port of Walvis Bay

The recent investment by Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) in ship-to-shore cranes is paying handsome dividends with the port achieving 27 moves an hour for the Rhine Maersk last month.

“It was all thanks to the teamwork of all involved,” said Maersk port captain (Angola & Namibia), Louis Coetzee.

“Increased berthing productivity – due to the procurement of the STS cranes – is helping to improve handling capacity significantly,” said acting chief executive officer, Kavin Harry.

“We’re on our way to achieving Namport’s goal of becoming Africa’s express hub to international markets.”
