For the first time since the commissioning of the New Container Terminal, all four Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes were simultaneously operational on the same vessel, on Wednesday, 11 September 2019.
The 4500 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) capacity vessel (MAERSK IYO) had a call size of 909 moves, including discharge and load.
The significance of having all four cranes operational on the same vessel simultaneously exponentially increases the moves per hour. This in turn speeds up the turnaround time of vessels, therefore shortening the stay along the quayside.
This was indeed a proud moment for Namport, proving that we are capable of moving in the league of our competitors.
