Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) has encouraged investors to utilise its facilities as it offers a quicker and shortest transit which is less congested.
The group will thus engage the Zambian business community as well as multinationals on the progress of the Namibia Logistics Hub Project.
This will be done in corroboration with Namibian Port Authority and TransNamib at an information session in Lusaka next week.
WBCG Development manager for Zambia, James Kaposa, said his organisation was the executing agency for the Namibia Logistics Master Plan and had a mandate to regularly engage industries and stakeholders.
Mr Kaposa said Namibia was a viable alternative trade route for land-linked SADC, through the Logistics Hub Project and encouraged investors to utilise the facilities.
“We would like to see a situation where there are no hold ups in cargo movement to and from Zambia as the country races to economic prosperity for her people.
“The Zambian market is emerging as a special market to the corridor as it is among economies that have a sustained and progressive economic development in the SADC region with construction, agriculture, energy and mining sectors attracting a lot of imports and exports,” Mr Kaposa said.
The group, he said, has appointed an interim Secretariat for the Walvis Bay – Ndola – Lubumbashi Development Corridor, a tripartite trade agreement involving Zambia, Namibia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mr Kaposa stated that the main objective of the tripartite agreement was to promote trade facilitation and deeper regional cooperation among the member states.
This would be done through dialogue among the three member states to address the challenges faced in road transport infrastructure, trade facilitation as well as safety and security.
