10720 metric tonnes of project cargo for Mohembo Bridge Botswana via the Port of Walvis Bay
The Nomadic Milde vessel docked at the Port of Walvis Bay over the past weekend with a consignment of 10720 metric tonnes of project cargo which will be used to complete the construction of the Mohembo Bridge in Botswana.
The 1.2 km long bridge which has been under construction since November 2016 will connect villages on the east of the river with the rest of the country in Botswana. It will furthermore provide reliable access to services, most importantly health and education among others and also open up the district for future economic activities. The bridge will also make it feasible for expansion of future road network and improve tourism in the area.
Speaking to Mr Rodney Brussel from the Botswana Dry Port, he indicated satisfaction in the service delivery from Namport as the “consignment was delivered without delay”.
It is expected to take 160 truckloads to transport the cargo to the construction site in Botswana.
Namibia availed operational sites to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana as land linked countries to enable them to conduct business via sea to their respective countries.
A dry port is an inland intermodal terminal directly connected by road or rail to a seaport and operating as a centre for the transshipment of sea cargo to inland destinations.
