WALVIS BAY, 18 APR (NAMPA) ? The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) and the Port Authority of Dakar in Senegal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Wednesday.
The five-year MoU entails a number of agreements which include sharing information, training of staff members, working with the respective ministries to see how cargo can be moved efficiently between the two countries and the rest of the world, as well as exposure to the respective ports.
During the signing event, outgoing Namport Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bisey /Uirab noted that the agreement is but one of the ways through which Namport is trying to strengthen ties with other countries.
?This is in an effort to promote inter-Africa and regional trade. It is also another way to look at additional opportunities to take up, as countries and promote our economies,? /Uirab added.
He commended the two countries? long relationship during the liberation struggle and reiterated the need to strengthen relations.
The CEO also urged the Senegalese delegation to explore other parts of Walvis Bay as well in order to see what else they would be willing to offer and invest in within the town.
The Senegalese delegation headed by Dakar Port Chief of the Marketing and Communication Department, Abdoul Hamid Sy is visiting Namibia for the first time on a five-day visit, which will end on Friday.
Hamid Sy also alluded to the importance of inter-African trade and reiterated that this agreement is a display of willingness of the two governments to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
?Through agreements such as these, it is possible for each of us to pick up best practises from each other, in order to develop each other and our own economies,? he noted.
Hamid Sy also commended Namport for its exceptional performance over the years and hoped Dakar would be able to tap into its knowledge.
