The outgoing CEO of the Namibian Ports Authority, Mr Bisey /Uirab yesterday called for an increase of inter-continental trading amoungst African countries. The CEO made these remarks during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Port of Dakar, Senegal. Mr /Uirab who indicated a great need to support each other as African countries wants to see more collaborative efforts on the continent and further indicated that approximately only 12 percent of trading takes place among the countries. “We need to become more reliant on each other and promote our countries amongst ourselves” he said.

Mr /Uirab further said that “the MOU culminated from talks that started two years ago and we are very happy to see the realisation of these talks as we officially cement our relationship today”.

Talking at the same ceremony, Mr Abdoul Hamid Sy, Coordinator of Strategic Partnership and International Cooperation Department from Darkar Port Authority said that “this type of relationship will improve the way the two ports do business as there will be an exchange of best practices amongst the two entities”.

The Port of Dakar also has a ship repair facility similar to that of Namport.
