NAMPORT WELCOMES H.E. UHURU KENYATTA, PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA
The Namibian Ports Authority today hosted His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya and delegation as part of H.E’s visit to the Republic of Namibia.
Welcoming the delegation, CEO of Namport, Mr Bisey /Uirab said that the two countries have enjoyed a long and beneficial relationship dating back before Namibia’s independence.
In his remarks the Head of State congratulated Namport with all the achievements it has attained thus far and further called for the “propelling of the Intra African Cooperation because Africa will not succeed as individual countries but if we are to succeed we should only do so as a collective”. Kenya has a port of its own which not only services Kenya but it is also a service centre to surrounding land linked countries such as Rwanda, South Sudan Democratic Republic of Congo amongst others.
With Namibia being a fairly small economy in comparison to other countries it needed to develop its economic corridors in order to facilitate trade between land linked countries and the rest of the world by establishing the Walvis Bay Corridor Group.
The President who has been on a state visit for the past week also joined the Namibian Nation during its 29th independence celebrations in response to an invitation by the Head of State His Excellency Dr Hage Geingob. His Excellency Vice President Dr Nangolo Mbumba accompanied the Kenyan Statesman to the Erongo region.
