The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport), through its Social Investment Fund (NSIF), recently donated electrical tool kits valued at N$50,000.00 to the Ondangwa Commercial College in the Oshana region.

The donation will ensure that students enrolled at the Commercial College are equipped with the much-needed apprenticeship skills in the vocational sphere whilst using the latest technology.

The college is registered with the Namibia Training Authority (NTA) and arms the students with vocational skills which empower them for employment or to create jobs for others.

In 2018 the Ports Authority entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the NTA, with one of the stipulations being that Namport would assist the NTA with resources that would advocate the Training Authority’s mandate of regulating and facilitating the sustainable delivery of quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) to the benefit of stakeholders.

One of the main pillars that the Namport Social Investment Fund operates on is to support educational initiatives covering the full spectrum from early childhood development to primary, secondary and tertiary education with a special focus on science and mathematics.

The overall objective is to improve the quality of education and improve the knowledge of all Namibians including but not limited to classroom construction, provision of educational tools and providing sanitation to rural Namibian schools.
