The Namibian Ports Authority (Namport) through its Social Investment Fund, NSIF, recently concluded its roadshow activities for 2021. A series of handovers were conducted in Oshikoto, Oshana and Kavango-East regions respectively.
The donations consisted of MBX team, a non-profit organization which operates in Omuthiya, Oshikoto region receiving one furbished container valued at N$ 57,000.00. The container will be used as a storage place for the NGO’s bicycles. The NamCycling is supported by the Namibian Cycling Federation (NCF) and aims at empowering children within the community with skills in cycling and road safety so as to keep the young members of the community out of trouble. The NGO has since its inception in 2015, managed to positively influence the lives of more than 260 children in its communities.
The next recepients of the generosity of NSIF was the Circle of Hope Academy (COHA) in both Ondangwa and Ongwediva, Oshana region, who received two containers to be used as classrooms valued at N$238,000.00. The Academy specializes in helping children with learning disabilities to receive care and specialized early childhood developmental assistance. The Academy, which is the first of its kind in the northern part of the country continues to grow from strength to strength with an enrolment of 15 learners at present as opposed to 2 learners at its inception in 2019.
The last stop for the NSIF Team was in Kavango East at the Nakazaza Combined School, which is home to over 600 pre-primary to Grade 10 learners. The Namport Social Investment Fund team handed over a newly constructed fence at the cost of N$ 231, 670.00. The intervention will protect learners of Nakazaza Combined School from several dangers such as loiters, cars driving through school property, wild animals, etc.
NSIF supporting these types of initiatives speaks to the United Nations Sustainable Goals (SDGs) of Health and well-being and therefore the Namibian Ports Authority through it Social Investment Fund remains proud to be associated with such programmes.
Speaking at the handovers, NSIF Trustee, Mr Elias Mwenyo said that “Namport through the NSIF arm remains steadfast in its role of being an active and responsible Corporate Citizen and continue to live by the entity’s values of being committed, connected and caring”.
The Namport Social Investment Fund was established in 2006 with the focus of four (4) societal pillars: Health, Education, Environment and Entrepreneurship and over the past fifteen (15) years, has spent over N$ 35 Million to uplift the lives of all Namibian communities across all fourteen (14) regions.
During this financial period, April 2021 to September 2021, and in light of our values toward being committed, connected and caring; the total amount spent was to the value of N$1,216,908.34 on various projects countrywide.
