PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
Responsible for planning and controlling the complete yard process in order to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency with due consideration to vessel and intermodal. The role reports directly to the Supervisor: Planning.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Prepare, execute, monitor working cranes program/sequence, and execute the vessel discharge and loan plans.
- Prepare the yard work plan daily and communicate to relevant persons where equipment must be located.
- Create and maintain a yard set-up which supports the terminals for a high productivity quay crane operation and constantly work to reduce truck turn-around time.
- Control yard space allocation by service, nominated vessel, POD, equipment type, special handling (i.e. hazardous, out of gauge, temperature-controlled units etc.) for empty and loaded equipment.
- Reports on the status of productivity, yard density, equipment utilization and strategy/allocation changes.
- Define export boundaries in such a way that they will not overlap with the boundaries of other shipping lines.
- Ensure that staff and port users on the quayside adhere to safety, health and environmental standards and regulations.
- Ensure that container/general cargo viewed in the bay image is the same in actual location in the yard.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Diploma in Logistics, Terminals/ Port/ Maritime Operations, Business Administration or equivalent [NQF level 6].
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in yard operations or transport and logistics planning.
- A valid code B/BE driving license.
- Proficiency in the use of relevant computer systems and software, such as terminal operating systems and scheduling software, will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of maritime regulations and operations.
- Sound knowledge of vessel planning and coordination.
- Analytical and report writing skills.
- Proactiveness and ability to work independently.
- Strong Leadership skills and ability to motivate the team.
