PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To provide specialist Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) expertise through the development, analysis, monitoring and advisory support of OHS systems, procedures and controls, contributing to effective operational safety, emergency preparedness and compliance with applicable legislation and standards, including ISO 45001 (International Organization for Standardization), under the governance of the Manager: Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ).

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Provide specialist input into the development, review and continuous improvement of OHS management systems and procedures aligned to Namport’s Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Monitor and analyse occupational health and safety performance, compliance status, risks and trends, and providing evidencebased recommendations to management.
  • Lead the technical aspects of incident and nonconformance investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
  • Conduct and support occupational health and safety internal audits and assurance activities within delegated scope.
  • Provide specialist oversight and interpretation of occupational hygiene monitoring and occupational health and safety risk assessments.
  • Support SHEQ strategic projects and special initiatives through technical OHS input and riskbased advice.
  • Provide technical support and advisory input in relation to emergency preparedness, drills and postincident reviews.
  • Contribute specialist technical input to OHSrelated budget planning, cost motivations and procurement specifications.
  • Compile accurate OHS reports and engaging with internal and external stakeholders, inspectors and auditors within delegated authority.
  • Provide functional supervision, technical guidance and mentoring to OHS Officers to ensure consistent and highquality execution of OHS activities.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • An Honours Degree [NQF Level 8] in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in the occupational health and safety field, of which at least two (2) years must have been at a senior specialist or supervisory level.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting OHS management systems aligned to ISO 45001.
  • Strong Integrated Management Systems (IMS) background, including SHEQ performance monitoring, data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong specialist knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, standards and best practice.
  • Excellent analytical, investigation and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to provide clear, evidence‑based technical advice and recommendations.
  • Strong report‑writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence safety outcomes through professional credibility and collaboration.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct, safety leadership and continuous improvement.
  • Code BE Driver’s Licence.
