PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To control, coordinate and facilitate marine related port operations. The role involves the collection, distribution, and communication of operational and emergency information between various stakeholders. The incumbent plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of vessel movements within port waters and reports directly to the Senior Vessel Traffic Control Officer.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
•Maintain and uphold Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental standards in accordance with established policies, integrated documentation systems, and relevant regulations.
•Control shipping movements by effectively communicating with vessels, directing their sequence of movements, and providing essential shipping, safety, and navigational information.
•Coordinate the activities of pilots, tugboats, and berthing gang staff to ensure smooth vessel handling.
•Liaise with ship agents, vessel owners, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
•Update operational logs (Port Log, Radio Log, and Revenue Information) on the computer systems.
•Record and report weather observations to support safe navigation and port operations.
•See to it that small craft harbor activities are monitored and recorded, and that harbor layout boards are kept up to date.
•Monitor radar systems to track vessel movements and port activities.
•Oversee the radio communication systems, video recording, and SASAR/NAMSAR operations to ensure continuous monitoring of port activities.
•Coordinate with the Berthing Master and Tug Master to manage vessel water supply operations.
•Ensure the functional status of navigational aids and prompt reporting of any malfunctions.
•Respond to and manage emergency situations effectively and in compliance with operational procedures.
•Perform any other ad-hoc duties as and when required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
•Grade 12 Certificate and Class 6 Deck Officer Certificate of Competence.
•Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the Port Control office environment and/ or experience in operating marine radios professionally for at least 3 years.
•Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
•Ability to work effectively under pressure.
•High level of attention to detail and operational awareness.
•Proficiency in the use of port operation software and systems.
