PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To execute emergency response plans within a designated area or jurisdiction. The role plays a critical function in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Namport community by developing, implementing, and managing emergency preparedness plans and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for incident response, collaborating with various stakeholders and providing guidance during crises to mitigate risks and minimize the impact of emergencies, disasters, or hazardous incidents. The position reports directly to the Senior Emergency Officer.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
• Respond to and deal with fire and emergency operations.
• Maintain emergency equipment in a state of readiness
• Respond to all incidents of hazardous substance spillages on best course of action.
• Deploy and operate pollution control equipment as needed.
• Execute planned emergency training sessions on Port Communities.
• Monitor surveillance platforms.
• Classify emergencies and direct initial response of emergencies
• Perform any other ad-hoc duties as and when required.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• Grade 12 Certificate (20+ points)
• Fire Fighting 1 [FF1] Certificate or Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) Level 1.
• Three (3) years’ experience in a fire fighting or emergency response environment.
• Code C Driver’s License.
• Knowledge of emergency equipment, fire systems, operations, and procedures.
• Knowledge hazard and medical evacuation.
• Knowledge of Industrial Fire Fighting.
• High level of awareness and ability to act accordingly.
• Physical strength and fitness.
• Discipline, reliable, honest and ethical.
