MEMBERS of the Kwathela Oshigwana Foundation at Ondangwa arrived at Walvis Bay on Friday morning with food donated to Walvis Bay residents.

Food items like maize, spinach, beans, lemons, pumpkins and melons will be distributed to the residents through the Walvis Bay rural and urban constituency offices soon.

Northern residents decided to donate the food to the foundation to help the government with efforts to feed hard-hit residents of the town during the fight against Covid-19.

Many residents have lost their jobs and cannot feed their families anymore.

The idea to deliver food aid to Walvis Bay was the brainchild of Ondangwa resident Paulus Cornelius, who felt sorry for the town's residents after he continously heard them complaining through the media.

"We did our part. We handed the food over to the Erongo and Walvis Bay leadership. We urge them and we are confident that they will distribute the food fast, as people are hungry. I urge Walvis Bay people to be strong as we will not forget you. Those that do not need food urgently must please let others get first," said Cornelius.

He also asked Walvis Bay residents to be patient for the next consignment, as it takes time and money to process and package goods.

The first consignment was transported in two lorries and others will follow later with transport from the Gendev fishing company.

The trucks and fuel for the transport were also donated by members of communities in the north.
